Read up on the latest from the LGBTQ caucus, meeting on a monthly basis.
The LGBTQ+ Caucus of the Ocean County Democrats held their first meeting of 2022 on January 20th. It was held by Zoom and well attended by 20 members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. Eileen Della Volle spoke about her experience running for State Assembly. She also spoke of the need to get more LGBTQ+ representation in government and encouraged anyone who had the opportunity to run and seek support from the caucus.
The group was also joined by Lauren Albrecht, Chair of the State LGBTQ+ Caucus. She provided updates on statewide issues including recently enacted NJ laws protecting marriage equality and repealing criminalization of HIV individuals.
Before departing, the group also adopted a mission statement: “The Ocean LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus is committed to visibility and representation in the Democratic Party and supporting, recruiting, and electing Democratic LGBTQ+ candidates in Ocean County.”
The next meeting for the Ocean County LGBTQ+ caucus will be on February 24th, 2022. For more information, including if you’re thinking about running for office, please email [email protected].
